GenTaiwan centers around bringing together generational differences within the Taiwanese community in Columbus, Ohio. The media in Taiwan influences political ideologies, causing the Taiwanese people to hold contrasting perspectives and beliefs. There are two main political parties in Taiwan: the Kuomintang (KMT), which isn't opposed to reunification with China, and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which identifies Taiwan as its sovereign nation.
The younger generation gravitates towards the DPP viewpoints, while the older generation advocates for a peaceful reunification. The topic is sensitive to discuss, and the Asian culture is mostly nonconfrontational. It's difficult for community members who want to discuss the events openly.
GenTaiwan addresses these differences by opening up the conversation through background information on Taiwan's overall history, including differential conflicts with China. It assists users in following a facilitator's guide that provides communication tactics and tools, ultimately encouraging them to initiate conversations with friends and family.
